"The cost of the drug war is many times more painful, in all its manifestations, than would be the licensing of drugs combined with intensive education. . . . We have seen a substantial reduction in the use of tobacco over the last 30 years, and this is not because tobacco became illegal but because a sentient community began, in substantial numbers, to apprehend the high cost of tobacco to human health."

Drug War Expenses
A Luxury We Can No Longer Afford

There is no way to know where all the money allocated for the War on Drugs has really gone. We do know, in accordance to public records, where much of the money went and how much was spent every year.

Using official records, conservative estimates show that our combined State and Federal governments have spent about $50 Billion a year over the past few years. Others estimate up to $200 Billion a year.

Using the conservative estimate, we still have to ask ourselves: 'Is this something our government  can afford'? The term 'government' should be accepted to mean: We, the tax payers. We are funding this effort. It is us that allows government to beg, borrow and steal.

In a time of corporate bail outs and personal hand outs, a time when the Federal Reserve is printing more money without worth or value, in a time when we are enslaving our posterity with more debt to China, we must stand up and make it known that the Drug War is a luxury we can no longer afford.

We have heard outrage towards the corporate elite from failed corporations for getting millions in bonuses from tax bailouts. Rarely do people contemplate that the Drug War is the same thing. It is an enterprise with a 90% failure rate. Funding it's agencies, departments, bureaucracies, and operations continually with tax dollars is the same as giving bonuses to drug warriors for failing year after year. It is like burning $2,000 of tax payer money a second. The Drug War is not sustainable with tax dollars or asset forfeitures. It never will be. The hard lesson for Americans is that prohibition is not only costly, it is a corrupting force in our government and society, that has rarely accomplished it's stated objective.

Let's be honest. Does anyone really know what the government means by; 'Victory in the Drug War'? How do organizations like DARE and Partnership for a Drug-free America define victory? The truth is that there is no consensus by the creators and executors of the Drug War.

That said; We, the resistors of the Drug War, wish to end the wasteful spending of a government run amok. We have found common consensus. We want nothing more than PEACE.

We want an armistice and to come to the table of truce with olive branches to accept an honorable end to the Drug War. We want to extend our hands in peace. We want reasonable conclusions that allow for freedom of choice and self determination for every individual. We accept that we must be responsible for our actions and until we infringe on the rights of others, the powers of government should not be used against any citizen.

We ask everybody to get registered to vote, and then vote. Write your local politician. (It only takes a few minutes). Let them know that there are a growing number of voting citizens that respectfully ask to stop funding the Drug War. Give them some facts and data to support your request. It doesn't have to be longer than 3 paragraphs. Whenever possible, hand write it.

If you claim to be an American, it is your 'duty' to write. It is your duty to pass factual information to your politicians. If we do not, it is us, not the politician, that has failed.

Just write and let them know you are tired of them spending your hard earned money on a failed effort.
